Nothing new about this film really.
Takes far too long for any real shocks or edge of the seat moments. And when they eventually come, they're not as shocking or edge of the seaty as you had expected.
The ending . . . WOW !!! There are "cliff-hangers" and there are "open for future films endings", this is neither, both and everything all at once. The ending ruins the whole experience. Too many unanswered questions. "Did she, didn't she ?" "What happened to the stepdad, after he was, apparently, bitten ?" "WHY, in God's name, can a Warewolf NOT bite through a plaster-cast, when, I imagine, even some domestic dogs can do it successfully ?" (RIDICULOUS)
Hate to put a downer on the director. The writers are to blame here !!
Get your own ideas !!
Could've been called "A Norwegian Warewolf in Norway.(or whatever country it was set) !?"
If its your first foray into "Warewolves", I s'pose you could do worse, but this film takes a hell of a lot of its ideas from "An American Warewolf In London."
"Viking Warewolf" begins in a similar way to "AAWIL" with strangers in an unfamiliar, small, fairly isolated area & one of them is a survivor of what appears to be a strange and unknown animal attack. Those of you that have seen "AAWIL" will recognise the visits from the deceased of the afore mentioned "strange, unknown animal attack." Although they do not grow in absurdity and Gore, with each visit, unlike "AAWIL". Which accomplishes showing the loss of sanity to the, rapidly growing "Wolf within" in a far better and entertaining way.
Overall this film is so-so ! I can't slag it off completely, as it had some reasonably good moments, but it really does unashamedly steel most of its plot and action sequences from "AAWIL".
My advice is to watch "AAWIL" instead and see how it was done 40 or so years ago. The animation and special effects may not have been up to today's standard, but somehow "AAWIL" does it sooooo much better.
