The author doesn't seem to have known which story to tell ie parents suffering under khymer rouge or a tale of Shackletons disastrous expedition mixed with a not very convincing time travel. A rom com? I don't think so. Very disappointing after all the hype.

Don't waste your money on the hard back wait for paperback if you must. I loathed the entire book. The characters had no saving graces and you couldn't engage with any of them or care about their lives. The Guardian review which said it was funny must have mistaken which book they were reviewing. And the denouement was a cop out.
