I've just finished watching the series over a week. So many intriguing ideas and the plotlines involving parallel stories on board spaceship and back on earth kept my interest. A high quality cast were occasionally let down by a somewhat mediocre script. (Nearly everybody on the ship was eventually involved in a sexual liaison - even the AI computer! Seriously?) Still, I'd watch another series, preferably with a different scriptwriter.

My wife and I thought it was excellent, capturing the Tolkien spirit and magic. The movie is not meant to be about the mature Tolkien and his finished books; rather it captures the soul of the younger man. Its depiction of his childhood experiences and Oxford student years, together with subtle hints and images of the books to come, was well-balanced. Those wanting greater emphasis on his legacy need another film! Tolkien lovers will enjoy this one. Definitely four/ five star rating.
