They should have just stuck to the story, of going back to retrieve Norman's body, and taking it home. Spike Lee could still have interwoven the stories of Black soldiers in the military, and thier struggles in day to day life stateside, as Black men, as returning soldiers from an unpopular war, as Black fathers. The tale about also getting the gold, and all the trouble it causes was just too much, at times, ridiculous. Lee should have made either the film about retrieving Norman, or the gold, but not both.
