The Many Saints of Newark is for the Soprano superfan not for someone who watched the series and liked it.
My Mrs didn't love the Movie as I did because I've watched the series multiple times as its my favourite.
The layer of detail and each scene, story, character can all be traced back to the original series and would wash over anyone's head who is not clued up in the Soprano world.
Sopranos is about the small details and writing and I'm very happy about the amount we got for a 2hr movie, I'll have to go back and watch the movie again as there will be things I missed.
There was so much to think about after coming out the cinema, little twists and how things got misconstrued over the years of Tonys life.
E.g. Dickie was never a drug addict like Chrissy thought his father was, Dickie was trying to help Livia and Tony.
David Chase makes a Cameo as Uncle Eckley, it last 2 seconds, but its these tiny small details that are layered in the movie from start to end that gives you that Soprano punch you've been waiting for.
It's not Good Fellas, It's not Casino.
It's Sopranos.
Beautiful.
