HONEST REVIEW
I never comment on these things but felt this might be the exception.
I would encourage you to please read this before watching.
A few WARNINGS before showing the kids!
- The word “Damn” is used. In Australia the word “damn” is not a swear word and is more common language. So I’ve seen a few reviews being offended by this so a heads up if that is inappropriate to you.
- I personally found it too sexually explicit for a kids movie. Some is subtle, but some of it might have your kids asking… It might be alright depending on your family!
- Although the clear and overall message is good (that they aren’t ugly monsters and beautiful on the inside), I would STRONGLY advise that you guide your kids with their knowledge of these animals that they are still dangerous and that we respect them by appreciating their capabilities from a distance
Very comedic and colourful. Enjoyed its light hearted nature and that more obscure species were used in the movie.
As an Australian I definitely understand why a lot of Australians are offended. Didn’t really effect me that way and assumed it was exaggerating things being a kids movie, but it was definitely enough cultural appropriation that I was questioning if that’s how other countries actually think of us.
It shouldn’t be taken educationally when it comes to culture, wildlife management and quite a lot of things about the animals themselves. Other reviews have gone into specifics… Looking past that, the characters of the animals were fun and enjoyable.
Lots of people seemed to have loved it which is awesome, but I did find it predictable and a cliche. Yet, I was still able to enjoy sitting through the lighthearted nature and beautiful scenery.
