The New Mutants is first and foremost about trauma and recovery. Is it the BEST movie i've ever seen? No, but what it has to say about mental illness, especially given the context of the xmen franchise, is incredibly important! I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding about what this movie is trying to be and I recommend watching "The New Mutants, Trauma, and Abuse In the Mental Health System" by Lord Ravenscraft after you watch this movie regardless of how you ultimately feel about the new mutants!
