Came across this movie and at the end wondered why I had not discovered it before, especially since Kevin Kline is one of my favourite actors. This is quite a story and thought provoking. What shines is the integrity of the teacher throughout (although he did slip up once, but the reason why was a calculated move), who faces many challenges but still sticks to his ideals and his goal of bringing out the best in his students. I dreaded the outcome when he decided to come clean to a past student about that slip up…..but was pleased with how that played out in the end. So many messages of impact in the film but for me the biggest one was that the world is carried on the shoulders of the hard workers and the clever ones who don’t seek fame and wealth, but just live their lives humbly and seek to do good. Highly recommend spending time watching this gem of a film.

Pretty scary interpretation of a possible future. We are pretty good at destroying ourselves…….that sums this movie up perfectly imo.

The young ‘care for nobody’ nasties are true bottom feeders….their acting good enough to make me feel sick…..and then when they are held to account, whimpering weaklings…..as they should be. Too many F-words, not really required but Mr S is always a pleasure to watch on the screen. The movie starts slow and quiet and then steadily ramps up. The humour is a bit misplaced and doesn’t seem to have a purpose as the mood does not need to be lightened. Thankfully Mr S plays it straight and purposefully pursues the nasty little boys, making them pay. Hooray!

A thought provoking watch. Another reviewer made the call that a film like this is a public service announcement and I tend to agree. Its production values create the impression that it is not really a narrative but a warning of a possible future. I’ve certainly seen corporate characters like these before…..those entrepreneurs that are supposed to make the world a better place but that’s not their true goal. Not your average movie. Highly recommend. If you like Black Mirror you will enjoy this.

I’ve watched this film multiple times and have shown it and discussed it with students when I taught Religion as a subject in HS. I love it as it explores what it is to be human. So many characters portraying the best and the worst of us. An examination of what it is to have faith, to believe something with your heart, to live that as an individual where it is personal and unique and how it can also be a part of a collective understanding. How faith is a personal truth. How we all want to make sense of our existence and purpose. How experiences shape and change us. The film makes you think about all of these things and more. It is uplifting and so always worth a view and seems to be timeless. Foster and McConaughey are also a pleasure to watch because of their passionate performances.

A fitting and satisfying end to the story. An emotional rollercoaster due to the inclusion of so many nods to the franchise. This is done tastefully and at times, with humour. Leia's part is beautiful. Character story arcs are developed nicely and logically and the climax is stunning. No spoilers here, just go see it for yourself.
