Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) delivers fanservice to all long-time Godzilla fans on a level that no Godzilla film prior came close to. The Tristar film was an absolute disaster and the 2014 film adaptation was an absolute bore-fest.
To my dismay, this film seems to have gotten worse reviews/ratings than the 2014 film and I swear to god, that is probably the single most stupid thing I've ever seen. That film was atrocious. This one is incredible. There is no contest. The film clearly paid attention to the source material and cared for it far more than the last two.
There are so many small details that only the absolute most hardcore fan could even notice (such as King Ghidorah's classic flight sound being heard every so often). I never expected this movie to do amazingly well in the states because the USA simply doesn't understand the true appeal of films such as these (hard truth) so I assume it'll make its money back in Japan.
Regardless of whatever takes place, I am absolutely appalled at the reception this film is getting. It hits ALL the right notes for the franchise and feels like a legitimate addition to the Godzilla series. What I watched was easily the most entertaining film I've ever seen since Infinity War.
What should you do? Well, I recommend you check the film out. Give it a chance. Do NOT let the naysayers turn you off. If you're a long-time fan, though, like me and so many others, you will adore this film. If you don't, then you don't. 5/5 Hail to the King.
