I bought this when it came out and I was 18 and just going off to art school. Vivid memories of friends really loving this at a time when grunge had just collapsed and our regular bands that we liked at the time were starting to wax and wane. The birth of Brit pop had started and this really stood out as something completely different; a group of guys in their late 40’s sculpting beautiful sonic landscapes and vocals. It has a much more listenable vibe to it than Momentary which was rather disjointed and lost in its delivery. Not one bad song on the DB and it translated beautifully, live. Just a damn shame that it’s their swan song when I felt they had much more to give with the added songwriting skills of Polly Samson. That being said, her songwriting has definitely charged DG’s solo albums. I just miss RW’s beautifully constructed synth and piano parts.
