Perhaps it’s because Latin is not the natural language of any of the performers that the dialogue sounds stilted and lacks nuance. To compensate, there is a lot of over-emoting. To compare it with another contemporary series, the performances in Das Boot - by natural German speakers - are much more persuasive and convincing
