After watching the first episode of Maters of the Universe: Revelation, I am impressed. The animation is amazing, the characters have personality, the sound track is compelling, and the story has depth. The original Filmation series had neither of the latter three. Infact trying to rewatch those episodes from the 80's now inevitably results in me falling fast asleep. In Kevin Smith's Revelation series He-man's ultimate sacrifice at the end of the first episode is a very powerful moment, and it's so fitting for Eternia's sworn protector. That being said, I'm not exactly ecstatic that, because of that sacrifice, He-man and Skeletor take a back seat, for at least the first five episodes. This doesn't mean that there's not a great story to explore. I give a firm five stars for Episode one, but I'm reserving judgement on the entire series until I've seen all ten episodes. I sincerely hope Eternia's quintessential Hero and Villain make an epic return before the series draws to a close.
