A heart-wrenchingly honest account of Shapiro’s attempt to decipher what had been troubling her about herself since childhood. Considering Shapiro’s strong Jewish identity and her experience of family dysfunction, the book takes on a complexity far beyond the issue of sperm/egg donor anonymity. It ultimately addresses the question we all face to one degree or another of how to define our identities. It is rewarding to read the book to its end.
