I'm not an anime fan, but I love Rick and Morty, so I decided to give it a chance. (SPOILERS) After watching the first 3 episodes, I gotta say literally nothing happened. Rick is out in space just chilling with Summer helping him, Morty only played a VR game set, and I don't remember seeing the parents at all (except for one scene in the first episode). It does seem to be ramping up though, because at the end of the episode, Summer says "let's save grandpa." I guess it just has a slow start. The pilot SUCKED. There was not enough Rick and mainly focused on Morty. It would've been better if we saw Rick and Morty going on an adventure, and him giving Morty the VR set or something, but it was a let down. In the second episode, we didn't get much of Morty either. I gave the series a few points, because I do appreciate the fact a Japanese fan of the show, wanted to make an anime version of it "with a Japanese twist," but this feels like a weird fanfiction with a very dull and hard to follow plot, and not well thought out characters. I do appreciate the time travel though, because the crew of Rick and Morty didn't want to deal with time travel, since it's too complicated and similar to Back to the Future (what it's inspired by), so it's cool to see the spin-off based on time travel. I wish it could be Rick and Morty in a different dimension, but we see Jerry Prime, and Rick is referred to as Rick C-137, so it's more of a "what if Rick and Morty is an anime." I love Rick and Morty, because of the comedy mixed in with the well-done storyline, but the anime doesn't really have any comedy, and the jokes they do have don't land. I know this is a long review but these are my thoughts. Overall 5/10, I like the story so far, but it's vastly different from Rick and Morty.
