Professional critics mostly do not get it right. They’re either lining up to lick a film makers boots or their circling like wolves to tear them apart. Neon Demon is no exception. Here’s why you should give NEON DEMON you’re undivided attention.
The film is beautiful to watch. Despite numerous shots taken by critics it’s a mesmerizing journey watching our young virgin beauty Elle Fanning blossom from hayseed to potential vacuous monster. She has plenty of over the hill twenty somethings wishing her bad thoughts. The power players that decide her fate all understand “that something” that comes along so rarely. The movie is ritualistic, macabre and unapologetically dark humored. It’s poignant and absurd, ultimately horrifying and disturbing. All this while pulsed ever forward by another great Cliff Martinez soundtrack. Nicolas Winding Refn is an absolute provocateur and it leads to another scrumptious cinematic vision. A second viewing will no doubt make you a fan for life. Chances are you’ll love or H8 this film. You will ave your buttons pushed. Not for kids at all as it has disturbing imagery and a necrophilia scene. I know I know but do you want to be bored or do you want to be pushed by a guy who loves pushing buttons for a reason? 4 stars for a movie fairly or unfairly highlighting the perversion of the currency of beauty.
