One of my favourite books of all time, and I sobbed so hard in the second half of the book. I rate it 9.5/10, highly recommend.
I recommend it if you like:
- ACTION AND ADVENTURE.
- authentic main character with first-person narration.
- fast-paced plot.
- INTERESTING PLOT.
- CLIFFHANGERS.
- a bit of science fiction/fantasy.
- a strong female lead.
- non-romantic focused plot.
- lots of divulging secrets/shocking backstory.
- EMOTIONAL SCENES INCLUDING CHARACTER DEATHS.
- you get attached to characters easily and you like being able to empathise with them/getting emotional over them (me).
- easy to read (the main character is illiterate so there's not many hard words). There are complaints about the writing but TRUST ME, you'll get used to it. The writing style tells us how Todd thinks. The book is about how everyone can read his thoughts, so it's definitely crucial in the storytelling. The book is worth it. It ain't Todd without the accents and misspellings.
Heavy themes the book covers (as far as I could find):
- COLONIALISM.
- GENOCIDE.
- GENDER EQUALITY/INEQUALITY.
- militarism.
Trigger warnings:
- any of the themes above.
- animal abuse (a dog is one of the main characters and he helps in battles).
- violence (not graphic, but they do describe it clearly).
