Great film, but a little slow. Story line was good, scenery was great but seemed to lack substance. Māori chiefs were not that scary, the youthful romance between good looking Māori boy and young girl was over too quickly with them touching each other briefly. Also, houses would have had candles at night back then. Not everyone was dirty back in 1830.

Just watched this - loved the amazing mountain at 1 minute and the end. But the rest of the film and Marc Andre LeClerc, wow! What a champion and all round nice humble guy. Truly amazing. Pushes out Dawn Wall and Free Solo as favourite movie.
PS the comments about mental illness are quite off.
