Quite frankly one of the few books I've read in a long time that have made me sob. It was a short, yet often intense read that really seemed to capture the struggle that Kid and the other cast of young characters that was deeply integrated into their lifestyle. As a love story, I really loved the fact of the gender neutrality/anonymity of Kid and Scout and that those who read their story could project themselves onto these dynamic kids. I was also left pleased at the end of the book with the amount of closure we were left with in their relationship. The last page leaves us open-ended, but with a hope of a relationship that stretches far beyond just the last rays of summer. Overall it was a novel that I definitely enjoyed sitting down and giving time to.The looming message that overall more needs to be said about the population LGBTQIA+ youth in our country is something I was really happy to see.
