What a shockingly poor attempt at drama. And such potential too.
On the surface, this film appears to be a modern take on an average family's quarrels over Christmas. But it quickly descends into implausibly unlikely reactions to petty arguments; addresses views on racism taken straight out of the 50s!
It descends further into the realms of mediocre as the main plot points are revealed. Continuing to plunge deeper, until the anticlimactic crescendo of a laughably poor finale, which could have come out of the 1960 version Little Shop of Horrors.
The use of stop animation at the end looked just as antiquated, and the exceptionally poor lighting choices made it look like an old black and white movie. If this was the effect they were going for, then they aced it - my question then would be: Why on earth, for a film made in 2018, would you choose to use to use such antiquated visual effects.
Overall feeling: Annoyed and disappointed.
