Should I explain my one-star rating? If I worked on this movie, or really any of the sequel trilogy movies, I definitely would not feel any obligation to explain anything. Like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, the movie gives you Who, what and where but completely ignores why and how. Palpatine is back! How? Who cares, moving on. What has he been doing? Who cares, move on. Why would he offer up power to Rey, that doesn’t seem like him? Please ignore and press on.
Virtually every significant event is unexplained. I can’t remember any truly important conversation (think obi-wan and Luke in ANH or Luke and Leia in ROTJ) in the entire movie. It is clear the makers of the trilogy were far more interested in crafting lightsaber battles and reinventing the Death Star (again) than working on a plot that picked up and concluded the themes of the original and even the prequel trilogies.
I love the originals and I even love the prequels. I’ll never feel the need to rewatch the sequels again. The real Star Wars story died when Lucas gave up control.
