I love when artists peel back the layers and show their vulnerabilities. Kate and Ellen did a great job. This one is closer to home for me: I grew up under communism and my dad was put in the “re-educated camp” (prison that communist government made for their enemies who were just business normal citizens, they called us “capitalists”. And my siblings raised me; we didn’t know if our dad was ever going to come back. Thank you for showing how raw, hard, and poor life can be, but yet we can all make the best of it and we can still come out okay.

I like the movie and love it even more when I realize that it is based on a true story. Love the scenery and the dances too. I agree with some other reviews that there are some under developed characters that could have elevated the outcome. But for the homophobic reviews, love is love, especially, when the storyline is based on a true story. I also read some review that Freddie committed suicide but I didn’t interpret it like that, I think he passed naturally due to his conditions and life expectancy.
