Really intriguing. If you ask about car anime, most recommendations will fall into Wangan Midnight, Initial D, or maybe EX-Driver. Don't get me wrong; they are good. But if you look into anime that tells about professional racing (like F1, or Le Mans), you do need to watch the series and OVAs.
As far as I know there are only a few of them, like Mach Go Go Go, Capeta, F (by Noboru Rokuda) and Yoroshiku Mechadoc (last mentioned is really hard to get). But if you want to feel the thrill of Michel Vaillant or NASCAR Racers, Cyber Formula is the only option for now. Not sure animators/ mangaka will create stories about professional racing again in the future...
