I felt that this film lacked emotional depth, with the characters being portrayed as rather dull and flat, making it difficult to connect with them, an in turn, the film itself. This made it hard to stay engaged, even with the interesting plot line, which had otherwise shown a lot of promise, but didn't quite get the justice it deserved in the end.
'Badlands' also very much resembles Wes Anderson's 'Moonrise Kingdom', the two films sharing many cinematic parallels, as well as having very similar styles, but if you were to ask me which of the two to watch, i would recommend 'Moonrise Kingdom'. Its fantasy vibe and sprinkle of comedic elements makes for a more entertaining experience, whilst still having a similar story. However, if it is a crime, romance story you are looking for, i would recommend the 1967 'Bonnie and Clyde'.
