The satire is as blunt as it gets. but that's probably needed for what appears to be a politically moronic audience (this view of the US from Australia) That the American TV audience is so often drawn to celebrity is an easy target, and surely we all needed someone to ridicule the likes of the Trump crowd and the denial of science and global warning, so when the daffy populist US President (Merrill Streep) is forced to recognize that the long denied 'planet killer' asteroid can be seen approaching earth with the naked eye if you just "look up", she is 'doing a Trump' and telling everyone that the problem will go away if they simply "Don't Look Up", then the analogy to the often made call to rely on ignorance to feel better, is made. I only wish the director didn't 'guild the lily' and add a fantasy SF ending on another planet after the titles. There is also a rare editorial blooper. Watch for De Caprio at the dinner table as the asteroid approaches. One moment he's holding his wife's hand, and the next his hands are clasped together. Weird!
