This film is all about bridging the gap in character development from cute little Anakin Skywalker to the handsome but headstrong Jedi Padawan and finally to the evil Darth Vader. I personally found the jump in Anakin’s behaviour from the besotted husband of Padmé to being her abusive enemy a little abrupt, and his change in motivation a bit of a large leap to follow. However the scene in which Darth Vader’s helmet is lowered onto his head and he takes his first raspy, rattling breath is one of the best movie scenes ever filmed. Ewan McGregor and Samuel L Jackson really shine in this film, and Yoda has some of his most heroic scenes. It is also chilling to see Palpatine’s plan for power unfold with the Jedi only realising too late what is afoot.
