I was exceedingly impressed by the comprehensive presentation of Grant's momentous life. As much as I have read and studied about the Civil War I have never quite grasped just how inspired Grant was as a military commander before. The historians in their commentary leave no doubt about Grant's genius in military matters. In the light of Lincoln's humble beginnings, Grant's equally humble start in life now seems much more admirable in comparison to the privileged upbringing of Robert E. Lee and the other scions of the south. In addition, we see that his efforts while president were far from being the bumbling shenanigans of a simpleton that have so often been conveyed. In sum, a very moving panorama of a life that deserved to be portrayed in stone up on Mt. Rushmore.
