Tom Hanks is the only person who could play Fred Rogers with the compassion that Fred Rogers had for humanity.
It makes me cry that he’s no longer with us on earth. As much as Fred was a national treasure, so is Tom Hanks. Mr Rogers was indeed a more complex man than we probably will ever know, but Tom made me feel that he truly understood what made him tick.
The penetrating stares he gives to “Lloyd,” the insight he shares which make Lloyd jump up and run out, are painful to watch, uncomfortable but so necessary for Lloyd to grow up himself.
It’s a beautiful movie, and much more moving than I expected. Don’t miss it, no matter how painful it might feel to watch it.
Just don’t miss it.
