I enjoyed this movie so much I looked up reviews and am writing my own - which I have never done. I read the NYTimes review saying the lack of conflict left it feeling bland but I think that’s wildly wrong. The conflicts within the movie are subtle… but real. Real life conflicts aren’t always intense and crazy, in fact most of the time they’re not. In his role Kevin Harts character experienced every day conflicts, the fears and doubts that come with being a father, and the struggles in his external life as a result of doing it alone. He doubted himself, he struggled with a new relationship for fear his daughter was starting to take a second place by incidents that occurred, struggled to manage work, with his deceased wife’s family and more everyday REAL conflicts people face, that’s what to me made the movie so beautiful. Not only did Kevin Hart play the role incredibly well but the movie was incredibly deep if you really paid attention. It was a beautifully sad story and I think it was well and truly worth the watch and even brought tears to my eyes in a couple of occasions.
