I've seen all of the director's films. Love his work. As a 71 year old you'd think I would be happy with a normal movie that didn't move 120 miles an hour, and killing 100 people a minute. But this movie just dragged on, and on. Many sequences could have been cut by 10-20 seconds, giving the film a little wind at it's back. While I love the actors whom I grew up with, I didn't need to study their wrinkles endlessly.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. But it could have been a lot more enjoyable to me, with a quicker pace. Just revisit the director's other classic films. They had a pace that kept you involved the entire film. Enjoy the long afternoon or evening.
