Man, I really, REALLY wanted to like this show. I watched episode 1, and half of episode 2 tonight, and....not even close. I was willing to look past Josh Brolin in the lead, even tho I knew before I started that he'd be playing the same character he always does: brooding, dark, potentially violent troubled guy. All the emotional range of a pair of scissors. Right out of the gate, episode 1 hits every spent western trope in the book: gawd fearin, church going, son who rides bulls in a rodeo, property line dispute with the neighboring ranch, drunken bar room brawl, driven the cattle from one pasture to another, blah, blah, blah. There is a large hole in the ground that serves as some sort of space/time conduit, but Brolins character is the only one who knows about it. We have no idea how it got there. Emogene Poots shows up half way thru episode 1 asking to camp on the ranch, and with the 5-6 minutes of screen time she has thru the balance of the episode, you get the sense she may know something more about the wormhole. Brolins sons kill one of the neighboring ranch's sons in a drunken brawl, and there is mention of Brolins other sons wife being a missing person. There is a Buffalo with a couple of arrows sticking out of its back that just randomly shows up in odd places at different times. 1.5 episodes in, there were so many things going on, but with no real detail, or clarity, and still couldn't tell you if it's going to be a western, sci-fi, horror, or crime show. Don't waste your time.

One star only because zero is not an option. This is 2 hours of nothing. There are exactly 2 scenes where any action takes place, and they are awful. First, Clooney deals with a sudden, and violent rupturing of the ice of Antarctica, cause as everybody knows, that ice shelf is paper thin. He ends up in the water, swimming down after a supply case. When we next see him, he is just fine, dry as a bone, even though he is/was outdoors, soaking wet in Antarctica with the wind howling. The other action scene involves a spacewalk gone bad. The scene runs 20 minutes and literally nothing happens...other than the entire crew of the ship singing Neil Diamonds "Sweet Caroline." Clooney is dying, but he's also with a little 8 year old girl that somehow gets left behind. The movie ends without revealing her fate. Just one of dozens of holes n the Swiss cheese plot. 90% of the movies that come out these days suck, and this one is no exception.
