It's difficult to make a film equal to Babette's Feast. Good try, but no. It lacks a plot and a moral. 2* for scenery and some cooking hints.

Tempted to give it 1*, but smiled once or twice, hence the upgrade. Well, it’s a French comedy oh la la. Not to be taken seriously. They still make fun of older fat women, so there’s some room for improvement.

1.5* for scenery, jelly fish swim and ABBA. The plot, what plot?

Agree with all 1* reviews. Reinforced my opinion that women are not that great movie directors as we are forced to think these days. Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate good stuff regardless of who made it - this one isn’t.

Went to see it for a good cause (fundraising), so cannot say I've wasted money. But I've wasted my time surely. Megalomaniac epic of the aging director. Napoleon was known for his heavy Corsican accent. Mumbling in English wasn't too convincing. Josephine transferred to 18th century straight from the 21st. Not too convincing either. Sex scenes ridiculous. Battles, well, I watched them with my eyes closed.

Thank gods for audience reviews. Stopped reading the professional reviewers (they are not critics anymore sadly) and 5 star reviews of audience who read them. I'm giving this film 1 star and will skip it.

I'm very surprised that Aretha's father has not been edited out from the original 13-hour footage. Apparently he was known for having sex with under-age girls, as young as 12, from his congregation. Surely, he would end up in jail these days, so why is he depicted as a loving father in this otherwise excellent documentary? Amazingly Disgraceful.
