Man of Steel is the introduction of Post-Crisis Superman to the mainstream audience. This is the story of Superman in a world that would not trust him, but fear him. A world that would not embrace him, but resist him. The music is outstanding particularly when you consider following in the footsteps of John Williams iconic Superman theme. Cavill is the best Superman since Reeve and its not close. Amy Adams is well, Amy Adams, one of the best actors in the business again. Michael Shannon has a fresh and convincing take on Jor-El. The most controversial character is Jonathan Kent played by Kevin Costner, who plays the character as a man determined to protect his son from a world that will initially fear him and does so in very drastic ways. While there some issues that could have been flushed out better with the story, I think this is a great, modern, and a lot more comic book accurate then people realize version of the Man of Tomorrow. As someone who has read hundreds of Superman comics from all the various eras (Golden, Silver, Bronze, Post-Crisis, etc.), seen every episode of Smallville and STAS, watched a lot of Lois Clark and Superfriends, and watched the Christoper Reeve Superman films multiple times I can honestly say I love Man of Steel and look forward to a standalone sequel.
