Long post and Spoiler free review.
Watched #Article15 and it's disturbingly brilliant.
Have to start with this dialogue, 'Hum Kabhi Harijan Hojate Hai, Kabhi Bahujan Ho Jate Hain Bus Jan Nahi Ban Pa Rahain Hai… Ke Jan Gan Mein Hamari Bhi Ginti Ho Jae'
I couldn't get up of my seat and still in thoughts and just felt so privilege I'm not to be in such situation.
Story and Screenplay : It is very much from it's start on to the point about it's plot and what is director going to serve us in platter. Pure and pure on casteism with it's consequences faced just for being poor and low caste. Director Anubhav Sinha was very clear, with what he wants his audience to feel, disturbing and sad. It is very well directed with some wonderful screenplay. Writer Gaurav Solanki has really penned down a story which is heart wrenching and also makes you feel uncomfortable for good. Work to applaud for! Have to mention, one of the best pre-interval scenes ever watched, goosebumps!
Cinematography : This is the highlight of movie. Cinematographer Ewan Mulligan is not showing you a movie, he is certainly lending you at the situation. Some shots send chills down your spine. Disturbing and powerful.
Editing : Editor Yasha Ramchandani does a great job, film is neither long nor short. It's crisp and properly timed. It isn't abrupt and leaves an impact.
Performances : It's been long time that I have seen such perfectly casted people in one movie. No actor is off their beats, they have included all the ingredients to a dish called acting. To start with the best performance for me was Manoj Pahwa, mostly known for his comic roles, he shows how brilliant he is when it comes to other roles as well, he proved in Mulk and now he just metalled his skills. Sayani Gupta, this girl is super impressive. She actually got the nerves of a dalit girl and how well she played! One scene, her burst out makes you cry. Kumud Mishra as usual is terrific. In full form, this actor never disappoints, whatsoever movie. Mohammed Zeeshan, he has got the best lines in the movie and he delivers them so convincingly, actually you can feel those words, a cameo to be remembered. Isha Talwar doesn't have much to do but is good. And finally Ayushmann Khurana, I feel this guy is just booming. He knows his skills, the best. He has evolved and just grown high and what variety this actor has shown in this 2 years, where he was just considered as boy next door. One of the best filmography in recent times, he has. Expressions are bang on and have lived the role.
Background score : Score by Mangesh Dhakde is perfect. It makes you feel about the issue and also the situation. Engrosses you more.
Out and out, a movie that shouldn't be missed. It's dark, gritty, real, in your face and disturbingly brilliant!
