I give this movie 3 stars only because it is a part of the Star Wars saga! Ultimately I was a bit disappointed in a couple of aspects of this film; story line & character development! Story Line; for the amount of time it takes to create these films I cannot believe more time is not devoted to telling a story that you want to be engrossed in! As a part of the audience I need to be captivated and pulled into a scenario that makes me feel like I a part of the movie itself. This film was choppy and disappointing in that respect , I understand the whole rebal fighting for a cause ( good ) so where is the threat the evil empire ( bad ) this was not even revealed until nearly the end of the film. Character development; Much more time was needed to give the audience a reason to be engaged in these characters, Ray - her past needed to be told in the beginning so we as an audience can want her to achieve her goal ....and what was that exactly? The most important character and she is running around not sure what to do because nobody told her where she came from! That breakdown with the main character filters down to all the other characters and their ties to each other, the whole Poe - Finn - Ray relationship was choppy and needed some clarity! Maybe I am being to critical but I have grown up with this series of films, having seen the first one ( part 4 ) at the age of 17, and from the very beginning of those first three films as a part of the audience you feel like you have known Luke - Leia and Han as part of your own family....not so with these new films.
