What you may not realize until half way through the movie is that it all seems to be the father's story. It opens with his narrative and ends with it. It seems that the strongest characters in the film are the older men, from the father to the Emperor, and the leader of both armies. Mulan is a weak character who is the vision if her father but fails to draw sympathy from the viewers due to her shallowness and weak character development. The sister afraid of spiders is more interesting. Three and a half stars for action but there are so many better examples this is a sad knock off and what's with the stupid phoenix kite looking bird, lame. No consistency except for the witch whose great performance is cut short with to few seconds of footage. Very disappointed.
