I came out of Bohemian Rhapsody feeling stunned! It wasn't until I saw the film that I realized how many of my favorite songs were by Queen. For some unknown reason, though I love and have always loved rock, I was never really into the band and never knew much, if anything at all, about Freddie Mercury. His story took place a long time ago.
After reading some reviews, I was hungry to see the film. Having watched the actual footage from Live Aid numerous times (even though it's 24 minutes long!), one of the stunners was how closely it was duplicated. I don't care about the shabby parts of Mercury's life, and was glad his sexuality was not the thrust of the film; instead dwelling more on his genius creativity. That was portrayed incredibly well.
Whether or not you liked Queen, or even knew much about the band, you will enjoy this film. It was certainly enlightening, and gives a real feeling of the process of what it's like to go from playing small club gigs to becoming world famous rock stars. Wherever you are, Freddie Mercury, I sincerely applaud you.
