Interesting footage and lovely to see places we will never get to see but the show is crippled by the concept.
If they had gone with a more 'How It's Made' direction where the places speak for themselves with text and a single narrator it would make the show far more classy.
Instead we have talking heads whom we are expected to beleive know the intricacies of every place presented, they don't, we know they don't, they can't read the dummy cards well enough to cover that up. I suppose the production should be commended for having genuine experts but because they are experts in history and engineering it means they haven't spent any skill points in TV presenting. This disparity makes the show which is already melodramatically made seem even dumber.
Frankly the local historians are the real people of interest, I only want to hear their very specific expertese along side much slower and longer footage of the places visited.
Sometimes simple can be more captivating than crass but you need bravery to do that and the creators/producers are not brave they just consumed great footage and history and squeezed out typically gormless trash. A real shame.
Finally thanks for having Lynette among the experts, I guess they are not afraid of scaring off the dumbest of the audience even if they are pandering to them with their treatment to history.
