I only found out there was a “twist” after watching the movie by reading some other reviews, which I think says something. However I found a different more troubling problem with the movie. The female lead is completely new to the world and quite young. Despite these she is still sexually taken advantage of. The problem is that the movie glorifies this and tries to hide it. They clearly have an audience and wanted it to be a coming of age story. However the problem still exists. I’ll try to explain briefly. None of the characters ages are ever mentioned. Clearly they wanted to hide the ages of the female character and the boy who she has a sexual relationship with. If they had hidden just their age the problem would be clear to see. The boy never finds out her age which is disgusting on his part. He looks much older than her as well. Although they might both be teenagers the problem of her not knowing anything about the world remains and it would remain if they were the same age. At first they just kiss while she is (super) drunk for the first time in her life. This is bad enough. They later have sex without protection. As stated before, she doesn’t know anything about the world. While she might know this could get her pregnant, due to her age and dangerous situation this should have been discussed between the two. There is more to go into however this is mostly it. Honestly, they could have had the romance and the pregnancy. If they had just put some thought in and the changes would have made things so much more interesting and given substance to something so dull. Again, it’s clear who the audience is but I found these aspects far too disgusting to care about something that had very little going on anyways. If you read all this you deserve a reward.
