Wonder Woman '84. What a Disappointment. We are such big fans of all the DC movies, we made sure to be at the Theatre for the first show on opening day/Christmas Day. Just a lame movie. Felt like a bad Superhero/Made-for-TV movie, crossed with "The Wedding Singer' for 80's pop culture irony. That kind of time warp humor is only funny for the first minute or so, then it’s just stupid. Some of the action sequences are slapstick corny. Like the 3 Stooges or the Coyote & Road Runner. This could have been so good, it makes me sad that it’s so bad.
Here is my first and most basic take on the ridiculous nature of this movie. In Batman versus Superman, and then again in Justice League, a major plot storyline is the fact that Diana went into hiding after Steve Trevor died during World War I and did NOT use her powers "for almost a century" to help mankind. But in this movie, apparently in 1984 Wonder Woman was alive and kicking as a Superhero fighting crime, and she even learned how to fly, which she apparently quickly forgot how to do because she doesn’t fly in any of the other movies.
And then there are the ridiculous scenes of the 1980s fanny pack fashion show, breakdancing, and 80s music that turn this into a period piece making fun of the 1980s just like the Wedding Singer
