10K has its moments but there is an almost glorification of the realities of single parenting and Ethan Hawke's bohemian lifestyle that far, far from the realities of the same particularly within that socio economic sector of the population. The neighborhood the prime character is thrown into after leaving NH was truly a hellhole of crime and not just jovial down on their luck avant garde NY'ers. On the positive I think the story line is interesting and provides insight into a teenage boy trying to navigate the life that has been dealt him. In our era of girl power ignoring the plight of teenage boys and young men battling and trying to find their way in the world is too often ignored. Hawke always put forth a good effort though many of his roles seem very similar over the years. The younger cast is generally quite good and the movie has a solid entertainment value. I prefer finding non commercial or independent films and Hawke seems to seek them out which is a plus for an actor.
