Don't recommend watching. While I think all the actors were brilliant in their own right, the pacing was extremely off and too slow at times...and the story began to lose its poigiance. If you had no prior knowledge of the original IRL case of the 90s, you would have no way to fully comprehend the story which is a result of the poor writing, and lack of story development. The random interjections of dramatic music felt like an SNL skit and I burst into laughter every time it happened...not to mention the music was attempting to make it seem more "artful", when ironically it did the opposite and became a distraction from the art itself.
The completely random sexual encounter Natalie Portman's character had did nothing to further the story and was completely unnecessary. It did nothing for the character development of either character.
I gave it two stars over 1, because the acting performances are perfect in isolation, but the director, writing, and production couldn't keep up with the talent of the cast. John Melton was brilliant and really opened the world up of that character well and I think it should've been explored farther and opened up even more...they really missed an opportunity. This whole movie felt like a waste of my time and a waste of the casts' talent....and not to mention a waste of a compelling story at the roots....but a rooted idea can only grow and flourish if the rest of production can break through the crest of complexities...this failed assiduously at every turn. (Cue unnecessary dramatic instrumental music) 🎤
