Gobsmacked. Finally, some truths on what women really have to deal with, without the soft soaping or filters. I also binge watched episodes one after the other. I hoped it would release some hard cold facts on the misogyny that reigns over the ol' blue tie brigade, but what came out, has kept me awake for nights. Women treated so different to their male counterparts in the same arena, with the same level of power, says a great deal about how far we have NOT come.
When Tony Abbott was ousted and Julie Bishop, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, was shoved aside, again, for the benefit of another male, it was a blatant, no question, neon sign to ALL women. Julie really was just a quota!
Then there is the sheer arrogance and disgusting contra deals these blokes have made on the back of women's issues. Not just disgusting but cruel. I still cannot fathom the man I revered as a seemingly good Prime Minister, John Howard, actually agreed to a sweetheart deal with Brian Harridean, that essentially sacrificed the needs, lives and well-being of millions of women, in order to get the privatisation of Telstra legislation through the senate! That piece of news, quite literally, made me vomit. I was one of those single Mothers in a severe domestic violence situation at the time, who was beaten and raped, I was to financially destitute my children to source the money and endure, not one but two horrendous abortions, or be forced to bring up a child with a psychopathic woman/child beater, and all because I had been refused the RU486 drug. It was a drug I asked for having known it was used in other Countries since the 1970’s. As far as I am concerned, the ten years of this ‘agreed’ law by two male control freaks makes them as bad as the monsters issued with Domestic Violence orders.
I will never see Prime Minister John Howard in the same light again, but then I doubt I will see any of our male leaders in the same light. It takes real men to speak up, fight against discriminatory behaviours, and say NO to the wrongs inflicted on women in all aspects of life.
Annabel Crabb you are just fantastic. Keep up the great work!
