There might be so many reasons to not like the series and I am sure you'll come across them on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB.
However, I need to stress on the ones that makes this series a brilliant watch.
- Depiction of India around the time of its first election is simply dreamy. I transform into a curious child, scouring frame by frame to capture numerous elements, motifs, behaviours or even words that celebrates the era. The director does a fabulous job of bringing the vivid imagination of Vikram Seth on the screen. Kudos to that.
- The star cast. It's an enviable ensemble. Each and every character weaves a thread of their story, so intricate and so interweaved, that results in a beautiful entangled mess. Mess is what life is. I can't credit anybody but the author for writing this masterpiece. But, it will be unfair on my part if I do not credit the stars for doing justice to those characters and adding their own charm to it. Trust me, there is so much charm in every character
- Manifestation of Pain through ghazals by Tabu
- Simplicity and directness of emotions by Tanya
- Unchecked passion and undiscovered charm by Ishan
and I could go on and on...
- What this story establishes so beautifully, is that:
- The world is not black and white;
- Our intentions are not definite
It's a series that will take you away from your world of plans, goals and achievements. And it will open doors to wonder, the power of the moment and the intricacies of human relationships.
We need to be reminded what life is actually about. And this does just that.
