I loved this book and recommend it for adults as well as teens. It deals with the controversial issues faced by a transgendered preteen with realism and sensitivity. In addition it touches on wild animal rehabilitation; has an abandoned canine co-star that needs love and compassion; portrays a relationship between an older woman and young child in a very positive way; and shows that a less than ideal step-family dynamic can find resolution and understanding. Ginny Rorby is a genius weaving all these story threads into one beautiful tapestry and bringing all the diverse characters to life. It's a story that resonates in the world of today.
