Very enjoyable - not too sweet and sentimental as there is a seriously 'dark' side to the story. This film is basically a classy romance, beautifully acted and filmed in ravishing scenery (Devon not Guernsey) - with a musical score which actually enhances the action rather than overpowering it.
Historically pretty accurate too. The original novel is more complex so the film version takes a few short cuts to keep the story manageable.
