Disney has ruined Star Wars. With the exception of Rogue One, which was brilliant, the Disney films have been failures. In many ways the Rise of Skywalker is even worse than the Last Jedi in that it retconned everything from the previous two installments and de-legitimized the previously significant events of the original trilogy and prequels. Emperor Palpatine should not have been in this film. His appearance made the Snoke villain virtually irrelevant. The movie was very long and it still felt like a film on ADHD hypomanically attempting to resolve all issues and suture all plot holes. The emperor wants to be struck down, then he's absorbing life force and as good as new, shooing force lightning into the skies. But a second lightsaber reflecting his force lighting destroys him? All those star destroyers yet they didn't have them in orbit prior to the rebels arriving.

This is self absorbed filmmaking at it's finest. While not as flat as Jackie Brown, this film fails to deliver the goods as Inglorious and Django did. Coupled with the lackluster affair that was The Hateful Eight, I'm not so certain enthusiasts will be begging Tarantino not to retire prematurely as previously asserted. But Brad Pitt was great. 2.5 out of 4 stars.
