If you're going to watch a sequel to an iconic 80s movie then it must go full-on with references to the original. Nostalgia is primarily the thing that got most of us to watch Coming to America 2.
Yes, the movie holds no candle to the original. The character arcs are confusing, the plot had multiple missteps (never heard of a war load that threatened a 👑 in his own palace and walked away unscathed), oh, and whose idea was it to make it PG13?!
However, the main cast hoists the movie high enough to make it enjoyable. It won't leave a lasting mark but we were all delighted to revisit the character that is Prince Akeem and his world in Queens and Zamunda, and for that, the movie deserves a solid 3.5.
PS: The barbershop is still lit! And Wesley Snipes did this thing!
