This is an engaging, fast-paced, and humorous mystery set in upstate NY (actually in a thinly veiled Ithaca and nearby towns). Presumably set in the late 2010s, the novel is decidedly non-noir, but the juxtaposition of the main plot (searching for a "lost" first-year student at a small liberal arts college), the main character's budding romance, and academia nonetheless made the book a pleasure to read (which I did pretty much in one day). Despite a few occasional literary and geographic miscues, I strongly recommend this book to anyone, who like me, enjoys light mysteries.
