one of my favorite poems. I have heard several several interpretations of its meaning, from straight forward to more complex. one interpretation I find interesting is a permanent rest(suicide contemplation) sensed by the horse. the rider then ends his contemplation, comes to see suicide as the wrong way, and would end his life promises, and he must continue to trudge forward away from the peace surrounding him
