To all those who are thinking of reading this book and are under the impression the it is about an adventure, it is not.
It is a Whaling compendium and guide in its entirety. The whole activities related to the mid 17th century Whaling has been described at length. The entire story component of the book can be realised in 250 pages. Rest all is about the physiognomy of whale, philosophising about the different aspects of whale and whale hunt.
That being said it is a must read for all this who are connoisseurs of quality novels. It is a tardy and long read owing to the difficulty in the language being used ( the main character admitted that he made use of a dictionary to help him find the weightiest words to express his story). But you will definitely enjoy the philosophy behind the book and the not so subtle message - don't mess with nature.
